DESIGN TRENDS WE’RE EMBRACING FOR 2025! 👋
As we move into 2025, some design trends are fading, and fresh inspirations are taking over. Here is a look at what is leaving and what is on the rise.
WHAT IS on the out & out
Overly Minimalist Spaces
As the *NSYNC song goes, we’re saying "bye bye bye"—bye to those stark, sterile spaces that feel more like showrooms than homes. The clean white walls and minimalist décor, once considered the epitome of sophistication, often missed the mark when it came to warmth, personality, and comfort. But in 2025, we are noticing a surprising shift, especially among clients here in Park City. What was once a go-to for the mountain-modern aesthetic—cool, neutral tones and minimalist designs—is now being replaced by a craving for color and personality As interior designers in Park City, we never imagined we would see the day when vibrant hues and rich tones would become the go-to, but we are ready for it! I I mean, we have even got a pink sectional in our studio for crying out loud!
Fast Furniture
Remember how the 2004 documentary Super Size Me rocked the fast food industry, exposing the consequences of cheap, mass-produced meals? Well, the interior design world is in need of a similar wake-up call—and luckily, we may not need a documentary to make it happen. The era of cheap, mass-produced furniture is coming to an end. In the past, the trend was to constantly refresh your home with inexpensive, on-trend pieces that did not necessarily last. However, with a growing emphasis on quality, craftsmanship, and long-lasting design, 2025 is moving away from fast furniture. Our clients are becoming increasingly knowledgeable and are now opting to invest more upfront for quality, knowing that doing it right the first time will actually save them money in the long run. Instead of replacing cheap, mass-produced furniture year after year, they’re choosing pieces that are built to last. Moreover, by working with an interior designer, they gain the ability to create custom pieces tailored to their unique needs, rather than trying to make a one-size-fits-all option like an online “Cloud Sofa” fit awkwardly into their space
Low-quality furniture that wears out quickly or lacks personality is officially out. Can we just take a moment to say goodbye to the ubiquitous white boucle chair that seemed to be everywhere? Instead, people are now gravitating toward timeless pieces that stand the test of time both in durability and design. This shift means fewer flat-pack, mass-produced items and more handcrafted, bespoke furniture that brings both style and substance to a space.
Gimmicky Design Shapes
You might be scratching your head wondering what I mean by “gimmicky design shapes,” but trust me, once I say goodbye to the squiggle shapes and bows that have overrun the design world in recent years, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. Yes, I am looking at you, Ultrafragola Mirror! While I can appreciate a cute bow on an accent pillow every now and then, the obsession with these playful, whimsical forms has reached its limit. There was a time when a bow here or a quirky squiggle there added charm, but let’s be honest the overuse has made these details feel a bit tired and, frankly, trite. When everything has a bow, it is no longer special. It just becomes a gimmick. These irregular, exaggerated shapes that once seemed fun often felt more trendy than timeless. Their uneven lines and quirky aesthetics did not always fit the natural flow of a well-curated space. In 2025, we are saying goodbye to the chaotic energy they brought, and instead, embracing cleaner, more organic shapes that offer balance, elegance, and sophistication without the distractions.
WHAT IS on the up & up
I hear you and talking about trends that are on their way out can definitely lead to design fatigue, which we would never want to happen! Let’s shift the focus to the exciting stuff!
Individuality
Interior design is experiencing a vibrant transformation, embracing boldness, creativity, and a renewed emphasis on individuality. Gone are the days when design was all about following the latest trends or mimicking what everyone else was doing. Today, it is about crafting spaces that are deeply personal, authentic, and in tune with how we live in the present moment. The trends of 2025 are all about designing homes that not only look stunning but also reflect who our clients truly are!
We are moving away from the predictable, cookie-cutter spaces that often felt like carbon copies of one another. I mean, let’s be real how many homes in Park City had that same gray and white mountain-modern look? As interior designers in this ski town, we are always pushing our clients to make their homes feel like theirs. Not a showroom or a replica of a neighbor’s place and it is exciting to see this shift finally being embraced on a larger scale in 2025. Now, more than ever, homeowners are celebrating what makes their space unique and embracing the freedom to reflect their personal style without feeling boxed in by fleeting trends.
Drapery
At Williams Metcalf Interiors, we have a deep appreciation for drapery but only after it has been measured and installed correctly. Install days are always a bit nerve-wracking for us, and when it comes to drapery, the stakes are even higher. While minor adjustments can often fix design errors, there is no room for compromise with drapery…it has to be perfect. That said, we are thrilled to see a revival in drapery trends, particularly a shift toward elegance and craftsmanship that transforms window treatments from mere functional pieces into true design features. We are especially loving the resurgence of intricate finishes, like trim and fringe, which give drapery the attention it deserves—have we mentioned how much we love trim? In Park City's grand homes, where blocking the harsh sunlight is a necessity, drapery becomes a crucial element, both in form and function. The focus is on thoughtful detailing, whether it is unique edges on shades or layered overlays on drapery that turns these treatments into focal points of a room. This renewed emphasis on fine craftsmanship allows drapery to infuse a space with luxury, texture, and personalization, enhancing its overall sophistication. With materials like sheer linens paired with the richness of velvet or silk, the goal is to blend beauty and functionality, creating a harmonious balance that enhances both the aesthetic and atmosphere of a room.
DEEP RED & BROWN TONES
In 2025, it is clear brown is back, and red is not going anywhere. We are thrilled to see deep red and brown emerging as key colors that infuse both warmth and sophistication into interior design. These rich, earthy tones are making a strong comeback, adding depth and elegance to spaces while maintaining an inviting, grounded atmosphere. It is a dynamic duo that’s here to stay, and we could not be more excited to see how these hues are transforming rooms with their timeless appeal. These rich, earthy tones are making a statement by creating inviting, luxurious spaces with a grounded sense of comfort. Deep red, with its passionate undertones, adds a bold, energetic touch to everything from statement walls to luxurious velvet upholstery and accent pieces. Also read more about our red in our blog here! Paired with brown, a color that embodies stability and earthiness, these hues are perfect for spaces that blend elegance with a natural, organic feel. In Park City's mountain homes, where the rugged outdoors meets sophisticated interiors, these tones feel particularly at home. Imagine rusty reds, burgundy, and chocolate browns layered in plush textiles like leather furniture, velvet drapery, and textured rugs. Using materials that reflect both the harsh beauty of the surrounding landscape and the warm, cozy atmosphere we crave indoors. This combination works effortlessly to create sophisticated, timeless spaces that reflect the town’s rich heritage while remaining fresh and modern ideal for living rooms, dining areas, and bedrooms where you want to invite both luxury and comforts
As we move through 2025, interior design is embracing boldness, creativity, and individuality. It’s no longer just about following trends—it’s about creating spaces that feel true to who you are and support your lifestyle! Call us to help get you through the New Year and finalize your space!
