Squibnocket Casa: A Coastal BEACH HOME Restoration
At Squibnocket Casa, tucked into Martha’s Vineyard, our clients set out to reimagine a historic cottage while staying true to its character. The goal was to create a home that feels both refined and relaxed, an easy, livable retreat layered with thoughtful detail. The transformation focused on the interior, where original architectural elements were carefully preserved and paired with more modern updates. We approached the design with restraint, allowing the home’s history to lead while subtly introducing a more current point of view. The open plan living space now frames expansive ocean views, bringing in natural light and a sense of calm that defines the home.
Throughout the project, we leaned into a balance of old and new. Existing woodwork and vintage details were restored rather than replaced, maintaining the integrity of the original structure. Natural materials such as stone, soft wood tones, and textures reminiscent of driftwood add depth and connect the interiors to the surrounding landscape.
A palette inspired by the shoreline, with soft blues, sand tones, and muted greens, creates a cohesive flow from room to room. Layered textiles introduce warmth and comfort while still feeling elevated. In the bedrooms, custom upholstered beds offer a sense of quiet luxury without feeling overly formal. In the kitchen, a Dutch door adds charm and function, reinforcing the cottage’s roots while integrating seamlessly with the cabinetry. Details like this bring personality to the space without overwhelming the design.
The result is a home that feels timeless and intentional, rooted in its setting and thoughtfully designed to reflect how our clients live today.
