Alice’s TOP FIVE DESIGN FINDS

A. Knoll Warner platner Table

The Warren Platner coffee table is one of Alice's absolute favorites, especially because of its perfect blend of artistry and function. Designed by Warren Platner for Knoll in the 1960s, this table became an iconic example of mid-century modern design. Platner, a celebrated architect and designer, was known for his ability to transform industrial materials into beautifully sculptural works. The table’s base is crafted from delicate, curved metal rods, a technical achievement that was groundbreaking at the time. These rods are meticulously arranged to create a sense of fluidity, giving the table a sculptural quality that draws the eye while remaining minimal enough to complement almost any setting. The glass top keeps it feeling light and airy, allowing the intricate chrome base to take center stage without overwhelming the space. Alice selected this piece because, well, it is iconic. This table has the power to elevate any living room with a sophisticated, modern style. The Platner coffee table transcends the high-altitude charm of Park City. It is  not just about living at elevation; it is  about raising the design standard, and this piece does it effortlessly.

B. Laurel Chrome Base & Frosted Glass Shade mushroom lamp

There is  something so captivating about the simplicity and elegance of this Laurel mushroom lamp that immediately caught Alice’s eye. Its chrome base has a sleek, modern look, but it is the frosted glass shade that really steals. The soft, ambient light it casts is both calming and dramatic, making it perfect for creating an inviting atmosphere. What Alice finds most striking is how the lamp’s shape is organic and fluid—contrasts beautifully with its industrial base. This lamp, originally manufactured in the 1960s, remains as relevant and magnificent today as it was when it first debuted. Alice loves selecting pieces with a history, especially those that are not brand new, because they bring a sense of timelessness and charm to a space. It is truly special to see a piece like this have a second life, seamlessly integrating into a modern setting. The lamp exudes luxury, yet does so in an effortless, understated way which is exactly the kind of design Alice gravitates towards.

C. Mid Century Geometric pop art print

This mid-century geometric pop art print on plexiglass is an absolute gem for Alice. The bold, vibrant colors and crisp lines make it feel so alive—much more so than traditional framed artwork. Alice has always been enchanted by geometric design; there is something so satisfying about how it brings order to chaos, and this print does just that with a lot of personality. Achieving order through art is a fascinating concept in interior design. Many clients overlook the transformative power art can have on an entire home. If you are unsure about how to select the right size and piece for your space, just ask Alice! She has a keen eye for curating artwork that enhances any room. Hmm... perhaps that will be the perfect topic for the next blog post! The plexiglass gives it a modern edge, making it feel fresh and on-trend, yet still timeless. What Alice loves most is how this piece brings new life to a room. With its architectural patterns, it is the perfect touch for any space, especially in Park City, where the mountain air meets a vibrant, design-forward lifestyle. It is the kind of artwork that makes a wall stand out with personality.

D. Late 20th Century Lounge Chair

This late 20th-century lounge chair immediately captured Alice’s attention with its clean, refined design and the perfect balance it strikes between comfort and aesthetics. The frame exudes strength and sophistication, with its geometric simplicity creating a striking visual presence, while the soft cushions provide just the right amount of contrast to soften the overall look. What Alice finds most compelling about this chair is its ability to be both sculptural and inviting, effortlessly commanding attention without overwhelming the space. Its proportions are ideal for modern interiors, making it versatile enough to enhance various settings, from intimate corners to expansive living areas. Expansive living rooms are all the rage in Park City, and a piece that can command presence in such a space is a true bonus for us at Williams Metcalf Interiors. For Alice, as an interior designer, this chair embodies the harmony between form and function. It brings bold personality to any room while maintaining a warm, welcoming atmosphere. This piece is particularly well-suited to homes in Park City, where design-forward choices blend beautifully with the laid-back yet refined mountain lifestyle.

E. Bertoia Sonambient Sculpture Beryllium Rod

Harry Bertoia is an iconic figure in the world of design, particularly known for his groundbreaking work in sculpture and furniture design. Born in Italy in 1915, Bertoia became a major influence on mid-20th century design, especially admired for his innovative use of metal. His Sonambient sculptures, like the Beryllium Rod piece, are celebrated for their dynamic forms and ability to engage both visually and acoustically. The beryllium rods, arranged in a flowing, almost musical pattern, evoke movement and energy, transforming the sculpture into more than just a visual focal point—it becomes a sensory experience. When touched, it can even produce sound, adding an interactive layer that few art pieces offer. For an interior designer in Park City like Alice, these sculptures are a captivating way to introduce depth and energy into a space.

For Alice, this sculpture represents the perfect fusion of art and experience. She is always looking for ways to elevate a home, and sculptures like Bertoia’s can turn a living space into a personal museum. The sleek materials and bold design reflect a minimalist aesthetic, while its ability to engage multiple senses makes it a standout piece in any modern interior. Sculptures like Bertoia’s have the unique ability to bring a room to life in a way traditional artwork cannot, adding not just beauty but personality and energy, transforming a home into a gallery in the most fascinating way.

MORGAN’S TOP FIVE DESIGN FINDS

A. mike serra studio NS-1 Nightstand

When it comes to bedroom furniture, Morgan believes the nightstand is one of the most important pieces. It is not only a functional item but also an opportunity to bring personality into the room. The NS-1 Nightstand by Mike Ruiz Serra is the perfect example of how a nightstand can transcend its utilitarian roots and become a work of art. The nightstand is a product of Mike Ruiz Serra's distinctive approach to design, where he forgoes conventional product development methods for a more intuitive process. He shapes his designs by hand in clay, which are then cast into the final form. This results in unique, one-of-a-kind pieces with a crude, textured surface that makes each piece stand out. The irregular form of the nightstand, with its rough texture, offers a perfect contrast to the sleek and refined elements of modern interiors. What Morgan particularly loves about the NS-1 is its versatility—this nightstand can easily complement both contemporary and more traditional interiors. In a Park City setting, where modern design meets natural beauty, the NS-1 would fit perfectly into any bedroom, adding a layer of sophistication while keeping the space feeling warm and inviting. Mike's method of creating with a sense of freedom and playfulness is evident in the finished product, making it a dynamic addition to any home.

B. La viva home talabartero saddle sconce

Available at La Viva Home, the Talabartero Saddle Lamps are a perfect marriage of craftsmanship and artistry. These sculptural sconces take inspiration from traditional saddle-making techniques, blending rustic charm with refined elegance. Hello, this piece could not be more perfect for an interior designer in the Mountain West! The Almendra finish gives the sconce a sophisticated, earthy tone, making it an ideal complement to any contemporary interior. What makes these sconces stand out is their unexpected combination of leather and metal—materials that are rarely seen together in modern lighting. This is exactly why Morgan selected this sconce; leather is not typically associated with light-diffusing design, yet the Talabartero sconce perfectly illuminates even the darkest rooms. Its geometric form, combined with rich textures, creates a bold statement that enhances the architectural presence of any space.

C. Pierre Frey Abkaou fabric

For Morgan, textiles are a key element of interior design that can transform a space instantly. The Abkaou fabric by Pierre Frey caught her attention because of its vibrant colors and intricate patterns. This fabric combines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design sensibilities, making it a versatile option for everything from upholstery to drapery. The bold yet balanced design of the Abkaou fabric adds depth and texture to a space, and its rich tones can be used to create warmth and visual interest in a room. Morgan sees it as an ideal material for creating luxurious yet relaxed interiors, especially in Park City homes, where the fusion of comfort and style is paramount. Whether used for a statement chair or to add a pop of color to a soft furnishing, the Abkaou fabric brings character and refinement to any space. Morgan simply had to include this fabric in her TFDF. During Deco Off in Paris, she actually crafted a skirt from this stunning material for the American Party in Paris. It is the most fun party with everyone who loves interior design under one roof…. IYKYK! The result was amazing, complete with pockets. Why not wear the fabric you design with? It’s the perfect example of wearable art, blending fashion and interior design seamlessly.

Here is the skirt and journey with us on our Paris adventure viainstagram!

D. Moses Nadel Round bin X

This is not your average storage bin because it is a piece of cozy art that happens to hold your things. In a Park City home, especially in the chic Deer Valley area, where style and practicality go hand-in-hand, this bin would be a total showstopper. Morgan picked it because let’s face it—storage can be boring, but the Round Bin X completely flips the script. Made from a mix of materials like woven leather and wood, its rounded design is a great contrast to the sharp, modern lines of typical interiors. And let’s not forget the fluffy, cozy fabric that adds an extra layer of warmth and comfort to the design. The Round Bin X is the perfect blend of function and flair, making it an ideal statement piece in any home.

E. Pani Kurek TRN Wood Ash Mirror / Triple

Mirrors are one of those essential design elements that can both reflect light and enhance the sense of space. The TRN Wooden Ash Mirror Triple from Pani Jurek is one of Morgan’s favorite finds for its perfect balance of modernity and organic warmth. Morgan is absolutely obsessed with stained colored wood, so when she discovered this piece, it was a game changer for her TFDF. She loves how the wood and its rich color work together as two elements of texture and value, perfectly combined into one stunning object. The mirror is framed with ash wood, which adds an earthy, organic feel to its otherwise sleek design. The trio of wood framing around the mirror creates depth and dimension, turning it into a true architectural statement that can anchor any room. What really sets this mirror apart is its simple yet elegant shape, making it versatile enough to complement a range of design styles—from minimalist to more eclectic spaces.

We love the flexibility to customize furniture and rugs, ensuring they meet our clients' exact design goals. It is a win for everyone involved! Dani envisions this rug in a living room or dining area in Park City, where its vibrant hues would contrast beautifully with the snowy, natural landscape outside.

Made from solid wood and featuring sleek, geometric lines, this credenza is both functional and visually striking. The hand-crafted details elevate it beyond just a storage solution, making it an architectural feature in any room.  The Rosevale Credenza would be perfect for a Park City home, especially in open-concept spaces where it can be appreciated as a statement piece. Its design reflects Dani’s belief that functional furniture should also serve as an artistic element, capable of anchoring a room while adding visual interest.  Morgan wishes she had discovered this piece first because it is so stunning. But that is the beauty of working in an open, collaborative office space and along with the TFDF blog; it always leads to finding new and unique pieces. The handmade details are so distinctive that this piece brings a playful touch to even the most serious of homes.

The Café Tattoo Chair by Zanat’s intricate craftsmanship and bold design make it an eye-catching piece, while its clean lines and ergonomic shape provide comfort and support. The cozy, tactile feel of the fabric brings a sense of warmth to a room, making it an ideal addition to a home in Park City, where winters can be cold but the aesthetic is always warm and welcoming. What sets this textile apart is its striking color—Coral Red Pepper—with deep undertones that give it a rich, dynamic quality.
